How To Write and Publish a Book

Many of us share a dream to write and publish a book, but few of us ever get started. Why? Writing can be very overwhelming. Hello, midnight meltdowns and self-doubt! As silly as it might sound, in order to become an author, you need to believe in yourself. Sadly, we don’t always believe in our abilities—even if we are experts in our fields. Or, we just don’t think we have the time. Or, we just get lost in the grind. Life is rife with distractions, and there’s always something to get us off track.

It’s time to truly believe in yourself and your ability to write and publish a book. We’ll show you how.

Write Your Book With Us

Publish Your Purpose is a professional hybrid publisher that supports aspiring authors throughout the writing and publishing process. We believe that everyone has a story. With some guidance, moral support (yes, cry on us!), and professional expertise, we can help you reach the finish line.

Getting Started for Authors

Our Next Session will begin
ON Tuesday, april 30
Tuesdays & Fridays
12 pm ESt/11 am CsT/9 am PST

The first step is admitting to yourself that writing and publishing a book is a dream of yours. Congratulations for coming to that decision if you’ve already reached it, and keep reading if you need a little more convincing.

Getting Started for Authors is our 6-month long program that takes aspiring authors from the beginning of the writing process (having an idea) to the end (finishing that manuscript!)

What You Get

Overcome Writer’s Block

Writer’s block is so real and experienced by all of your favorite authors. Thankfully, people have been writing books for millennia, so they’ve acquired some tips and tricks for overcoming it. We will help you learn the best practices for establishing a writing routine and structure so you stop wasting time pacing back and forth in your kitchen when you’re supposed to be writing! We will show you how to give yourself permission to write a “shitty first draft” that will free you from writer’s block.

Join a Community

Another downside to attempting to write a book? Typically, you do it all alone in your living room. This can be challenging, especially for people who crave human interaction and feedback. When you join this program, you’ll be connected with a wide variety of aspiring authors to gain strength from, bounce ideas off of, and commiserate with. Plus, you’ll be connected to our team of professionals, who have the experience to tackle any and all of your questions and hardships along the way.

Get Specific, Very Specific

The key to writing a good book? Know exactly what you want to write about. This can be a tricky one, considering people who want to write books are often jam-packed with ideas. While ideas are always a good thing, there is such a thing as trying to stuff too many into one book that it loses its focus. We’ll help you get to the sweet spot, and find what you’re really trying to say.

In our 6 months together we will help you get your manuscript finally written.

When you enroll today you get all of this for just $5,997 USD (you save 20% by paying in full)!

  • Weekly Strategy Sessions (Tuesdays 12 PM EST/11 AM CST/9 AM PST) for when you are feeling stuck on how to do something or are looking for strategic guidance in an area of your manuscript, you can ask any questions you have on a weekly basis.
  • Weekly Writer’s Group (Fridays 12 PM EST/11 AM CST/9 AM PST) to provide you with a dedicated and safe space to get your writing done on a week-to-week basis.
  • A Private Facebook Group that you can utilize to ensure you are sticking to your goal of getting this book written.
  • Dozens of Video Lessons that guide you through the key areas of the program.

  • Over a Dozen Resources that are vetted and available to you as you continue to explore your publishing paths after your manuscript is written.
  • Office Hours led by Jenn T. Grace on the 2nd Friday of each month exclusively for PYP authors and students, offering a chance to connect with and get feedback from other authors and the PYP team.
  • Book Marketing Expert Series held with Jenn T. Grace and leading book marketing guest speakers each month.
How It Works

How It Works

The Getting Started for Authors program is a six-month online program to get writers from the first word
written on the page, to finishing their manuscript (and being proud of it). We know exactly what you need
to get there as a first-time author, and we’ve put it all together into one program.

Accountability and Strategy Sessions

We know how hard it is to stick to writing deadlines, so we’ll keep you accountable with one strategy session per week to make sure you’re on track to hit your goals. This is a great time to seek strategic guidance from us when you’re feeling stuck.

Writing Sessions

You’ll meet with your writer’s group once a week over Zoom for a designated time to write, so you don’t miss your deadlines. With a personalized writing schedule, you’ll begin to notice your writer’s block starts to melt away and be replaced by a consistent outpouring of content!

Peer Critiques

To finish your manuscript, you need as many eyes on it as possible. Gain insight from your fellow writers. You will have the opportunity to have your writing critiqued and reviewed by your peers in a safe and encouraging environment. Critiques are provided from a place of support and empowerment among the group, as we work to push each other to be better writers.

Organization Tools

Save precious time by using our tried and true methods of organization for your next book. This includes help with outlining your manuscript, repurposing existing content from other things you’ve written, and an amazing software program called Scrivener that will absolutely change the way you think about your manuscript. Plus, a Progress Tracker Spreadsheet tool so you can visually see the progress you are making.

Writing Videos and Worksheets

Learn the best practices for improving your writing and producing a higher quality book at the end of all of your hard work. Worksheets are tried and true (and have been used personally by CEO and founder Jenn T. Grace for all seven of her books). Gain access to dozens of resources that are vetted and available to you as you continue to explore your publishing paths after your manuscript is written (and we are always adding more).

Writing Sessions
Program Curriculum

In our 6 months together here is how we support your writing.

  • Have an opportunity for your draft manuscript to be reviewed by
    • the program facilitators
    • a developmental editor*
    • and your peers
  • With the goal of giving you better clarity on what you are writing in real-time, saving you time and money in editing later

*A developmental editor is an editor who provides comprehensive feedback and guidance on a manuscript during the early stages of the writing process. Their primary focus is on the overall structure, organization, and content of a work, rather than on grammar, punctuation, or style (which is typically the role of a copy editor or line editor).

Developmental editors work closely with authors to help them refine their ideas, clarify their message, and ensure that the manuscript achieves its intended goals. They may offer suggestions for restructuring chapters, developing characters, improving plot coherence, strengthening themes, and addressing any other aspects of the writing that may need enhancement.

In essence, a developmental editor acts as a strategic partner to help shape a manuscript into a polished and cohesive manuscript that resonates with its intended reader.

I feel very supported with respect to having access to people that have gone through the journey. Publish Your Purpose goes above and beyond to support us.

—Erna L.

In the program we can talk about our book, ask questions, share our writing, and get feedback from PYP and our classmates. It was really helpful to stay on target.

—Monica L.

The team at PYP was a godsend for me!

Jenn and her team are dedicated, professional, and supportive! They gave me the confidence to push past my fears and gave me the tools and strategies to write my memoir. I am a better writer because of this program!

—Midge N.

My book might never have come about without the support I got from PYP’s Getting Started for Authors course.

I met a cohort of authors who became instant friends. Their feedback and encouragement motivated me to keep writing and the accountability of meeting regularly kept me on task. PYP’s staff is unbelievably friendly and their gentle reminders to keep working on my project, even after the class was over, helped me cross the finish line and complete my memoir.

—Chris D.

The Getting Started for Authors program has helped me dramatically figure out how I’m writing about this, and what to write about, and how to try to be a lot more human about it.

I have to give Jenn and her team credit for putting together this group collaborative effort where you have input, not only from experienced writers, but also groups of peer writers who may be writing their first books. It’s a very successful model and very worth my time.

—Eric P.

The Getting Started for Authors program has been an absolutely brilliant experience for me and precisely what I needed to assist me with clarifying my focus, refining my target audience, and outlining my book in a manageable way that produces results.

Jenn, Bailly, Brandi, and my GSFA team have provided me with a safe space to learn, share, grow and accomplish my writing goals. I highly recommend this program and I am sincerely grateful to be a part of the PYP family of authors.

—Kimberly F.

Getting Started for Authors is a great program. Not many exist like it to help people get started writing.

Each cohort can create a welcoming community where your talent will be nourished. Jenn, Bailly, and Brandi are also genuinely warm and encouraging, giving weekly prompts to get you to write. Best wishes on your writing journey.

—Myisha J.

Prior to joining Getting Started for Authors, I was dabbling with the idea of writing a book and feeling very overwhelmed. In these last 5 months, despite a few health and life challenges,

I have made considerable progress in outlining my mind map and how it’s valuable to future readers, and am writing with a clear vision rather than an abstract idea.

—Serpentessa B.

I’ve been “planning” to write my book for several years! The Getting Started for Authors program is the only reason my book is so far along. I went from nothing on paper to at least 75% of my manuscript in 6 months!

I had a great group of authors to talk with twice a week, share our writing with each other, get helpful feedback and encouragement to keep going. I feel like I’ve joined a community of authors and I know who I will be turning to when it’s time to publish my book! Jenn T. Grace and her PYP team are really top notch.
